Auriculotherapy (pronounced or-ic-u-lo-therapy) is a technique in mind and body wellness that focuses solely on the outer ear (auricle). The ear is the focus because the ear is a microsystem, meaning that the entire body is reflected in the ear. Various parts of the body can be treated by locating that point on the ear. By stimulating that point, that organ is stimulated, leading to beneficial changes, including but not limited to, the releasing of stored emotions in that organ.

These specific points correlate with acupuncture points. You may be familiar with some of the positive benefits of acupuncture for physical as well as mental and emotional well-being. Auriculotherapy has similar effects, but does not involve needles. Instead, it involves palpating or massaging the points, through electrical stimulation with a device, or through the application of beads that stick to the ear and remain there for a couple days. Essential oils can also be applied to the points to produce the desired effect on that organ.

There are hundreds of points that address much more than just the organs. There are points for the musculoskeletal system, endocrine system, nervous system, emotions, and many more. In fact, a “recipe” of sorts can be created to achieve a desired effect by stimulating multiple points on the ear. There are protocols for weight loss, smoking cessation, breaking habits, insomnia, chronic fatigue, and so on.

Here are a few examples: [1]

Weight Loss: Mouth, Esophagus, Stomach, Abdomen, Appetite Control (Hunger point), Shen Men, Lung, and Endocrine point

Smoking Cessation: Nicotine point, Lung 1, Lung 2, Mouth, Palate, and Brain

Insomnia: Nervous Subcortex, Master Cerebral Point, Point Zero, Shen Men, Tranquilizer Point

Really, any issue can be addressed with auriculotherapy. Stimulating the ear points creates a relaxing effect on the entire body. This is a unique experience that helps us to achieve our goals by addressing the problem on an energetic level. This is also a great alternative for those who do not like the idea of needles in acupuncture. Contact the office to learn more!
