As we step back into functioning as a society, the more we understand about the natural powerhouse herbs that God has created for us, the less we need to fear.

Garlic
Garlic is not only a culinary vegetable, it is also considered a valuable herb.  Several major civilizations are recorded as having used garlic, these include  the Egyptians, Babylonians, Greeks, Romans and Chinese.  Hippocrates, the Greek physician, who is considered the father of Western medicine, stated,

“Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food.”

Hippocrates used simple methods to help his patients, without hurting them.  One of these was to prescribe garlic to treat a variety of medical conditions.

Modern science has confirmed many of the health benefits of garlic.  It is claimed that most of the health benefits of garlic are from the sulfur compounds formed when a garlic clove is chopped, crushed or chewed.  The most well known of these is allicin.  Here are some of the Health Benefits of Garlic:

Boost the Immune System  Garlic supplements are known to boost the function of the immune system.  Several studies have been done to show how garlic helps reduce catching colds and the length of colds. [1]

Reduce Blood Pressure   Studies have shown that garlic supplements  help to reduce blood pressure in people with high blood pressure.

In one study, 600–1,500 mg of aged garlic extract was just as effective as the drug Atenolol at reducing blood pressure over a 24-week period. [2]

Improves Cholesterol Levels   Garlic has shown to lower total and LDL cholesterol.  For those with high cholesterol, garlic supplements appear to reduce total and/or LDL cholesterol by about 10–15%. [1]

Other claims of Garlic are:

  • Garlic contains antioxidants that could help prevent Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Garlic may enhance athletic performance and endurance.
  • Garlic may help detoxify heavy metals in the body.
  • Garlic can prolong ones life

We all should include this wonderful herb in our daily diet.  Use it in stir fry, soup, stews, and salads.

For medicinal purposes, we carry Dr. Mercola’s potent Fermented Garlic capsules.  Dr. Christopher’s Blood Circulation formula also contains garlic.   They are both convenient and easy to take.
