Description
Diatomaceous earth (DE) is a naturally occurring, soft, siliceous sedimentary rock composed of the fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of microscopic algae. Diatomaceous earth (DE) can be used internally for various health benefits, including detoxification, improving digestion, and eliminating parasites.
Diatomaceous earth is primarily made up of 80-90% silica, with smaller amounts of alumina and iron oxide. It forms from the accumulation of the silica-based shells (frustules) of diatoms that have died and settled in aquatic environments over millions of years. These deposits can be found in freshwater and marine sediments, where the remains of diatoms accumulate and undergo compaction to form diatomite, a more solid form of diatomaceous earth.
