Have you set your 2020 New Year’s Resolutions? Many of us feel the urge to start off a new year on the right path. This is an important time for reflection over what the year has brought, and where we can learn and make corrections. This is also a time of letting go of what is no longer working for us in our lives so we can make room for the new.

Even though we may have good intentions and a strong desire to change, we often fall back into our comfort zone. No matter how determined we may be to meet our goals, we continue to struggle when we do not have the most important piece of the puzzle: self-awareness. Many of us were not taught how to be ourselves, but instead, we were taught who to be for someone else’s approval. Any goals we set for ourselves that are built upon this faulty foundation will eventually fail.

Resolutions or Affirmations?
Instead of making New Year’s Resolutions, consider making your own New Year’s Affirmations. Affirmations are positive statements that create a change in the pathways of the brain. This change disrupts negative pathways that have been reinforced over time and have gone undetected by the conscious mind. This brings new awareness to previously subconscious programming.

Affirmations for the New Year
Focusing on self-awareness provides the foundation for all of your dreams and goals for the future. Incorporating affirmations into your day is a simple and easy way to help you meet your goals and to stay motivated throughout the year. Here are some examples:

  • I accept the lessons of the year.
  • I welcome and accept change as the cycle of life.
  • I see my past as stepping stones to my success.
  • I will honor and respect my body.
  • I will speak truth.
  • I will respect my feelings.
  • I deserve wellness.
  • I only allow the best fuel into my body.
  • I allow joy into my life.
  • I love myself.

You can use the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Tapping Protocol with these affirmations as well. Consider keeping a journal for regular reflection on these affirmations. What lessons have you learned in 2019? What kind of change is calling in your life? In what ways can you love and honor yourself more? Remember to reflect on your blessings and practice gratitude for all that you are thankful for. Happy New Year!
