My Father, Larry A Hagen, passed away on Saturday, September 27th, 2025. As I remember my father, there are many things that I appreciate about him.

My Father Loved the Lord
The most important thing about my dad was that he loved the Lord and sought to follow Him.  By his example, he led his family to read the Bible and pray, to do right no matter what, to care for people, to love God’s Word, to help others in need, and to seek God for direction.  His passion to serve the Lord was evident in HIs life.

My Father was a Family Man
My Dad really loved and valued his family.  Next to God, his family came first.  He loved children and it showed.  He often played with us, taught us many things,  took care of us when we were sick, provided for our needs and some wants, trained us to work and do chores, gave us jobs to do so we could earn money, and made sure that we were taught lessons of life.  Even after we left home, he kept in touch and we were a big part of his life.

My Father was Fun
Ever since I can remember, my dad enjoyed playing with us especially as children.  We would wrestle and ride horseback on him.  He would also flip us over while lying down.  He took us to Disneyland when we were in California.  In Japan we lived by the sea, and he often took us to the beach to swim and then get ice cream.  When we got older we played board games together.  Even when I visited my parents as an adult and parent myself, we would enjoy a game of Skip-O together.

My Father’s Character
The outstanding character traits of my Dad was determination, diligence, perseverance, and being faithful,   Because of his strong personality, he did what few men would have done.  He did pioneer missionary work in the northern most city in Japan.  We were so far north that on a clear day, we could see Russia about 25 miles across the ocean.   In the winter, snow was measured by the feet not inches.  When we had a good snowfall, we could open the door and there would be a wall of snow!   In the first house my parents had, that my dad helped build, my dad would joke and say, “Sure, we had running water.  I ran up the hill to get it and ran down to bring it home!”

A Bible Verse
The Bible verse that I think of that could be said of my Father is, Matthew 25:21:
“His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”
