Last week, I started a series on the Triad of Health. This approach deals with the whole person, not just one aspect. There are 3 main areas that we must consider when looking at our health, these are: biochemical, structural, and emotional /mental. Today, we will look at the structural component of health.
Structural Health
Our structural health is very important for our overall well-being and function. This would include our bones, vertebras, skull, muscles, ligaments, teeth, and positioning of internal organs. Because the nervous system is connected to all parts of our body, the structural health of the vertebra are immensely important. If we do not have good nerve flow, our body will suffer.
PRACTITIONERS: chiropractors, massage therapists, physical therapists, body stress release practitioner, and others.
Chiropractic Help
Not all chiropractic methods are the same. According to Dr. Eversage, a NCR & ABC chiropractor, adjusting the spine anterior does more harm than good. He says, “The big mistake that chiropractors make is adjusting, or pushing, vertebrae forward. This forward direction of a vertebrae is in the anterior direction; therefore, we call it an anteriority. When a chiropractor lays you facedown, prone, on a table and drives all of your vertebrae forward he is doing you great harm. Why? Because he is pushing your vertebrae in a direction that the body cannot self correct.”
Another important aspect in chiropractic care is when we have an injury and it results in a Primary Biomechanical Pathology (PBP), the body will attempt to maintain homeostasis, or balance, and will create compensations. If a chiropractor adjusts the compensations instead of the PBP, it is like taking an aspirin for a headache one got from “banging the head against the wall.” It’s addressing symptoms instead of the root cause. When we don’t go to cause but only deal on the level of the effect, then the body does not heal but remains stuck on the level of the problem.
Some Key Points to Consider
- When choosing a chiropractor, make sure that he does not adjust the vertebrae in the anterior direction.
- Always address the cause or PBP, not the compensation.
- Tension in muscles are a sign of a structural problem and should be addressed.
Herbal Help
- Our nerves can be damaged by loss of blood flow and toxins. A helpful remedy is Relax Ease.
- Complete Tissue & Bone gives the body what it needs to repair itself. Has been used for broken bones, headaches, pain from injuries, and tissue repair.
- Pain Aid this new product is showing to be helpful for pain.
Helpful Modalities
Here are some modalities that I have found helpful both for myself and my clients.
- NCR NeuroCranial Restructuring – There are four things that distinguish NCR from other body work techniques. NCR is done in two phases – MRT (Meningeal Release Technique) and ERT (Endonasal Release Technique).
- ABC Advanced Biostructural Correction – this is usually done with NCR and is very effective in correcting the Primary Biomechanical Pathology, and not the compensation.
- BSR: Body Stress Release – Stress overload can become “locked” into the body. This “body stress” manifests as lines of tension at specific points, which may bring about postural distortions, pain, stiffness, or numbness. The impact on the nervous system disturbs the body’s lines of communication, thereby undermining efficiency of function. By releasing the body stress equilibrium is restored.
- MYK: Myokinesthetic – MYK was created to relieve pain and restore function. The MyoKinesthetic System evaluates the root cause of pain within the nervous system, then rebalances it using muscle stretching and movements.
